Interview: Sonny Fodera

 

This week saw us catch up with Australian heavyweight Sonny Fodera to discuss his forthcoming ‘We Work It EP’ on Visionquest, as well as news of his upcoming gig and what he has planned for the future, read on!

Your ‘We Work It EP’ is due out on Visionquest, can you talk about how the original came about? And what factors played a part in selecting the remixes?

Sonny Fodera

I was in the USA on tour and stopped in Chicago to work with Gene in the studio, I had this track idea and bought this new vocal processor that day at guitar centre and got Gene on the vocal and “We Work It” was born. It was quite a “big” week, so I guess the lyrics were really influenced by what we witnessed on the weekend.

You’ve recently worked with some serious producers, such as Bontan and Cajmere, how does it feel collaborating with such talented artists?

Sonny Fodera

Amazing! to work with someone like Cajmere is awesome, he is almost like my mentor then to work with someone like Bontan is great, he is a great producer. I like to work with different producers and vocalists to educate myself and take my sound to different levels.

You’re about to play Defected In The House at Oval Space in London, do you have anything special planned for your set?

Sonny Fodera

I do! I have some surprise guests performing with me to promote my upcoming album on Defected Records, so should be interesting to see how the crowd react. I love Oval Space, I played there last year for the Mixmag Defected party, was really something special

I am starting a live outfit with Chris Lorenzo, Jakkin Rabbit and Cause & Affect and also new album coming up on Defected Records.
