Q&A: Monitor 66

 

We spoke to Monitor 66 to find out about their recent inclusion on the House of Disco / Jeudi Records compliation album and what they have in store for the near-future.

So who is Monitor66?

Monitor66

We are two Swedish dudes both named Hannes – inconveniently enough, who make and play music together. To make this easier you can call us Rehnström and Forsman (our surnames).

Your track ‘Gave You My Soul’ is featured on the new House of Disco / Jeudi Records Compliation album, can you tell us the inspiration behind the track?

Forsman

People keep telling us our tracks are too mellow, so we tried to put together a harder track. I can’t tell if we succeeded or not, but I think it came out pretty ok either way.

Rehnström

Yeah! It’s was more about creating a diverse track to enjoy both at home and at the club.

Rehnström

Forsman doesn’t like bananas but I love em’.

Forsman

Yep, hate ‘em! I also have a strange obsession with the french singer Alizée.

In the past year you’ve remixed everyone from Finnebassen to Kraak & Smaak, are there any of your own productions you hold close to the heart?

Forsman

Triscuits would be the obvious answer since that was our “breakthrough”, but personally I’m also really proud of the track Cur, which we did together with the singer Oh Deer. It was our first foray into writing a real song rather than just a dancefloor tune, if you know what I mean.

Rehnström

Yes, completely agree with Triscuits, but I also like the track Virago since I put a lot of effort and love into it during the summer of 2012.

One thing you own but never use?

Rehnström

I have a trumpet I rarely play on these days. We have said many times that we would like to incorporate more live instruments into our productions and sets, maybe this is my time to shine?

Forsman

Yeah, we have to make that live trumpet thing happen. I had to think hard about this, but I realized I own a bread making machine I’ve never used. Now that you reminded me about it I’m thinkin’ I should dust that bad boy off and make some bread!
