How does the tracks on the CD reflect a set one would more commonly hear from you in a club?

Matt Tolfrey

It’s always hard to capture a 3 hour club set within the boundaries of a 74 minute CD, but this Fabric mix definately moves. I edited nearlly all 25 of the tracks on the mix to squeeze in as much as possible, and i’m really happy with the result. Did you know that the reason for CD’s being 74 minutes is because that is the length of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony?

You had an EP come out on Skream’s ‘Of Unsound Mind’, can you talk about the inspiration behind that?

‘Dance Like There’s No One Watching’ is an intense dancefloor workout that keeps building, and building and dropping right out from under you. From hanging out with Olly, i realised how much this track suited him, so when it was done, i sent it over, and he signed it.

‘All About You’ started life a long time ago during one of my album sessions between Sam Russo, Kevin Knapp and Myself. I dug it out to finish as the vocal was to good to sit around in the depths of a hard drive somewhere. It’s quite laid back, but bumps.

You included just one track from yourself on the Fabric CD, ‘Lost In Space’, does this hold special significance for you?

Lost In Space was the first record that i wrote without a common 4-4 structure. It’s alot more broken beat than anything, and to tell you a secret it actually started off life as a remix, but i was to hooked on it, so had to start the remix again and keep these beats for myself!!!

Three tracks you can’t get enough of?

2nd Shift feat Heather – Somethin’ Else (This Years Peasant Looks Mix), one of my favourite Derrick Carter remixes of all time!

Phil Weeks – Social Club, this track is so sleazy and simple it’s amazing. It doesn’t do alot, but what it does do, it does right.

Mr G – TT Rum Bar (Seven Davis Jr Remix), I’ve just been sent this and i know it’s gonna get alot of play time. It’s out on a relatively new label from Bristol named Just jack, who also throw some of the best parties in the country. You can’t get away from Mr Davis Jr’s funk…

I got suspended from school for pinching a girls ass. I did grow up in Bahrain in the Middle East though, so it wasn’t exactly the done thing!

What is the coolest thing in your house?

My pregnant wife, or a piece of art we got for our wedding by Bonnie and Clyde called ‘The Waterslide.’

Can you reveal any plans you may have for the future?

Matt Tolfrey

Musically, alot of my attention is currently taken up working on a new project with jozif named ‘Kerb Staller’. We’ve been hard at work for the last 6 months working towards an album, and we’re playing our debut live set at Fabric at my CD launch on April 25th.

It’s great working with jozif as we have instilled a no rules policy so we’re actually writing some great songs. We’re working with a singer/songwriter from Manchester called Duncan Jones who is also in a band named Silverclub, and his voice fits exactly what we’re trying to achieve.

I’m also always working on some solo material, where i am still learning alot as i go along. Having a studio has really helped that i share with Seth Troxler and jozif, an i highly recommend it, i had far to many distractions at home!

It’s also Ten Years Of Leftroom this year, and we are releasing a HUGE compilation towards the end of 2015 that is still under wraps for now. Watch this space!
