Q&A: Selected

We caught up with the guys at Selected just prior to them reaching 50,000 subscribers on their YouTube channel. As well as this amazing feat, the boys have also amassed an outstanding 4,000,000 video views to date, a number which grows at almost 100,000 per day! If you aren’t yet aware of the smooth basslines and summer time chord progressions their channel bares home to, you soon will be. Read on to find out what Selected is all about!

So who is Selected?

Nick

Actually we’re just two guys who love to promote their taste in music.

Nico

Selected is a YouTube Channel where we promote tracks we love. Mainly Deep-House.

Soundspace

You just hit the amazing milestone of 50,000 subscribers, how does it feel?

Nick

We really enjoy it. There are times when you just can’t realize the amount of subscribers and views on your channel. Even if it feels unreal sometimes, our new goal is 100k!

Nico

It gives me a very good feeling to be rewarded for all the effort we put into it.

Did you ever think your channel would ever get this big at the start?

Nick

To be honest, not even a bit. We started that just for fun, and it became more and more serious what we did there.

Nico

Haha, no way! I thought we’d just be one of those undercover channels with under 5000 subscribers. Never expected that.

Are there any specific roles either of you carry out, or do you both pitch in to everything?

Nick

Sometimes one of us does things like connecting with artist or writing mails when the other one is in a better situation to do so – but generally we both are able to do everything.

Nico

We don’t have a plan for everyone’s task. But sometimes it’s easier when i check Soundcloud for some new stuff, and Nick answeres our Emails. All in all we complete us. We couldn’t employ somebody else – we’re kind of worked into.

What advice would you have for anyone setting up a new YouTube promotion channel?

Nick

Definitely love what you do. Be patient & be ready to put a lot of hours every week into it. Also, always have a friendly ear for people submitting their work.

Nico

1. Stick to your taste in music. 2. Get a remarkable name & a good design. 3. Always be up to date for new tracks

What are you both listening to at the minute, when you aren’t reviewing submissions or possible uploads?

Nick

I listen to all kinds of music. From Noisia to Disclosure, Flume, Burial, Biggy, The Black Keys. I just enjoy good music, even if it’s from barely known artists.

Nico

I actually like Drum’n’Bass, Neuro-, Glitch-Hop, Dubstep, HipHop – if it sounds great, nearly everything.

Do you have any plans for Selected in the future?

Nick

If we make it through that copyright jungle called Youtube, we’ll have a lot more to come. We’re in contact with a music contribution company to maybe put our own Selected mix on iTunes. Also, we’re preparing for a Selected merchandise. Should we reach a really high amount of subscribers, we’d even start Selected house-events in clubs here in Berlin.

Yeah of course! My personal wish is to meet the artists personally like “Selected meets Flume”. Also, a Selected-event like us, Djing in a club or being on a Festival with our tracks. That would be great!
