Fresh Picks: Joyce Muniz

Being a regular artist amongst Shir Khan’s Exploited release schedule has made Brazilian DJ and producer Joyce Muniz a go-to selector for eclectic and energetic sets.

Besides Exploited, the Vienna based Muniz has also made appearances with Culprit, 20/20 Vision, Get Physical, Gigolo and Sol Selectas.

This months edition of our Fresh Picks invites Joyce to share some of her favourite tracks of the moment, and she’s provided us with a cracking list of tunes from names like Anja Schneider, Jimmy Edgar, Pezzner and more.

SRVD – Elevate
Label: Rekids
Release: August 31st

This is the debut EP from SRVD and it’s an absolute killer! Radio Slave and Patrick Manson’s new project is super fresh, and I can’t wait for more. ‘Elevate’ is crunchy and sexy, the vocals on the tribal beats take you on an intense journey, and the B-side ‘Nasty’ is a must have track. What more would you expect from a collab like this?

Luuk Van Dijk – Acid Trip

Audio Jack’s label Gruuv, always surprises me with fresh tunes and fresh artists. I really dig this gem by Luuk Van Dijk – a very talented producer from Amsterdam. He did a great job on this one, which has a perfect acid, minimal and break beat combination. It’s dark but super groovy. I really enjoyed playing it at the Berliners after hours this summer.

Carlos Castano – Ping Pong

This new EP from a young producer from NYC called Carlos Castano is dope! Especially the title track ‘Ping Pong’. I really like the tones and the percussion. It’s super smooth but also deep and has that kind of Latin vibe with some minimal flavour. I find that the vocal cuts are meditating and free.

Francesca Lombardo – Spondylus (Anja Schneider Remix)

Francesca Lombardo just released her first EP on Anja Schneider’s label SoUs music. Its dark and deep and I love it. It’s so good to see two very talented ladies collaborating. Original is amazing, but Anja’s remix is my fav – really love the harmony, even though it’s a dark track she still manages to keep it warm and techy.

Lauren Flax – It’s Yours (Jimmy Edgar Remix)

Jimmy Edgar’s remix of ‘It’s Yours’ by my dear friend Lauren Flax is deep! It has the right late-night vibes, and it makes you float. I really enjoyed dropping this one late at night when everyone is just relaxed with their eyes closed. The whole EP is cool, and Lauren did an amazing job with this one. DJ Haus has great taste, and I really like the Dance Trax releases on his label Unknown to the Unknown.

Terranova & Flashmob – Cosmochord (Pezzner Remix)

Release: August 10th

Pezzner’s remix of Cosmochord is sweet! Cosmochord – the name itself I think describes perfectly the whole vibe of the tune. The rolling piano chord through the whole track bringing a great atmosphere. The track has a massive kick which turns it into a perfect jackin’ house bomb. The drums and percussion bring a little bit of that tropical vibe. I have a lot of good memories playing this out this summer at some cool open air parties.
