Forbidden Fruit Festival: The unmissable acts

Bulmers Forbidden Fruit Festival returns to Dublin city centre for the seventh time in early June. The festival, held at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham on the site of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, takes place on this June bank holiday weekend starting on Saturday the 3rd and ending on Monday the 5th. Forbidden Fruit boasts four stages and a large variety of acts have been recruited to fill them over the three days. We’ve narrowed the lineup down to the five acts we cannot wait to see.

1. Mall Grab

23 year old Australian producer Jordan Alexander, more commonly know as Mall Grab, arrived on the scene in 2015 and has been one of the leaders in the recent lo-fi house craze. His house, techno and disco inspired productions have led to releases on labels such as Hot Haus Recs, 1080p and Unknown To The Unknown amongst others. Jordans quick rise to fame has seen him relocating to London due to Europe-wide demand for his DJ sets and we can be sure to see much more of the young Aussie in the near future.

2. Peggy Gou

South Korean Peggy Gou developed a keen interest in electronic music and began DJing in her teenage years whilst living in London. In 2014 she moved to techno capital of the world, Berlin, and her career has taken off since. Gou delivers energetic sets consisting of house and techno sounds and her impressive performances have not gone unnoticed with Gou becoming a regular on lineups worldwide. Aside from her impressive mixing skills, Peggy delved into the production side of things in 2016 with releases on Technicolour, Rekids and and Phonica White.

3. Denis Sulta

Denis Sulta hails from Glasgow and is currently one of the most exciting prospects in the music world. Denis first emerged in 2014 with a debut release on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and since then he has quickly cemented his place as one of the top young DJs and producers in Britain. Sulta really knows how to get people moving with his atmospheric DJ sets where he plays a mixture of house, techno, disco and hip-hop and we will surely be looking forward to seeing what he has up his sleeve for Forbidden Fruit Festival.

4. Brame & Hamo

Ireland natives and long-term friends Tiarnan and Conor will be travelling home from Berlin to perform at Forbidden Fruit Festival. The pair made the move from Sligo to Berlin in order to bolster their already thriving careers as producers and DJs. Their productions ooze quality and record labels such as Soul Heaven Records, Dirt Crew Recordings and Heist Recordings have spotted this and paired up with the lads on their releases. Brame and Hamos mixture of house, jazz and hip-hop will have feet moving this weekend coming.

5. Maceo Plex

Maceo Plex, real name Eric Estornel, is perhaps one of the more experienced names on the line-up at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham this weekend. The 38 year old American has been on the go since 2001 and a success filled career has seen him travel the world to perform live and release music on major labels such as Kompakt, Ministry of Sound and Drumcode, to name a few. Estornel, now based in Barcelona, released his new EP ‘The Tesseract’ just last week and will be looking to test it out on the Forbidden Fruit crowd this weekend.
