Interview: Maxinne talks ‘Red Alert’

British selector Maxinne had a strong year in 2024, releasing productions with record labels like Circus Recordings, as well as celebrating the launch of her very own Red Alert imprint. Now on it’s fourth release, the label enters 2025 with a solid foundation and ambitious goals, and we’re excited to see where things go from here.

We spoke to her quite recently to ask about how the label came together, what she’s hopeful for in 2025, and more. Read the full discussion below.

How are things in the life of Maxinne right now?

Hello Soundspace! Life has been pretty good thank you. Making music, working on my label, and touring was a big focus last year. I’m in a really creative space at the moment and excited for everyone to hear what I’ve been working on.

You launched your own Red Alert imprint back in May, with three releases on the label so far, what else can we expect to hear on the label soon?

We’ve just had our fourth release out on the label, a single from Italian DJ and producer Josh Kalker, and a remix by Ammo Avenue from Peru, these two artists have been my favourite producers for years and their music is always a go-to in my sets. Their sound really reflects what the label is about and I’m super proud of this release.

Both versions of the track really bring something unique, with Josh’s stripped back hypnotic groove and Ammo’s remix bringing a high energy driving take on the original. We have lots of exciting releases to announce for 2025.

Do you have a bigger vision for Red Alert over the long term?

Yes we do, I want to take it as far as possible. There are plans in motion to do events, merch, albums, and label tours. I have a big vision for it so I’m looking forward to the future. A lot of hard work is required but I love what I do, so for me it’s fun, and I enjoy a challenge and having goals to work towards.

You’ve put music out with labels such as Circus Recordings, HE.SHE.THEY, and Poker Flat Recordings in the past, what’s your typical process in taking music from the studio to getting it signed?

I always make music for me first, that represents my taste and the sounds that I love and then I send it to a label afterwards. I sometimes have a label in mind to give me inspiration for the direction I’ll take the track in, but I generally just vibe it out when I’m in the studio and see how the creativity flows.

The process of getting it signed can be different each time, sometimes labels pick something up fairly quick and then other times it can take a while to find the right home for a track, but that gives me lots of time to play it out a lot before getting it released.

And which labels might we see you on in the near future?

I’m in the process of finalising my next releases at the moment but all will be revealed very soon once everything is confirmed.

What was one of your favourite tracks of 2024?

Of my own it’s been my collaboration with Ammo Avenue, which we released on Danny Howard’s Nothing Else Matters label, the track was so much fun to make and the response to it in our sets has been amazing. A favourite from somebody else is ‘Sergio Saffe – Sigridd’ – the groove is so infectious.

What were some of your highlights from last year?

Launching my label was a big highlight last year, as I was working behind the scenes on it for over a year to make sure aesthetically it aligned with everything I love and my taste, so to finally be able to share it with my audience is really fulfilling and the support so far has been more than I could of imagined.

What are your new year’s resolutions for 2025?

To be the best version of me and expect my best music yet next year! Hope to catch up with you again soon!
