Interview: Mathys Lenne debuts on Monday Off for new VA release

Mathys Lenne contributes one of the defining moments on Monday Off’s upcoming Various Artists Vol. 8, with his track ‘A Gentle Singularity’ offering a restrained, hypnotic counterpoint to the compilation’s heavier cuts.

The release marks his debut on Mary Yuzovskaya’s vinyl-focused imprint, which continues to champion tightly curated techno across limited pressings.

Lenne’s inclusion aligns closely with the label’s emphasis on subtle, atmospheric construction, pairing his immersive production style with Monday Off’s careful approach to selection and format.

Ahead of the compilation’s arrival, we caught up with the Berlin-based artist to discuss the ideas behind ‘A Gentle Singularity’, his current creative direction, and what to expect from him heading into 2026.

Where are you right now and what have you been up to today?

Right now, I’m at home in Berlin, working on several upcoming musical projects. I’m also collaborating with a friend on a short film / interview that retraces my journey from the very beginning up to today. It should be released in the next few months.

Your track ‘A Gentle Singularity’ is featured on Monday Off’s upcoming Various Artists Vol. 8. What was the initial idea or spark behind the record?

The idea was to bring us together in order to give a specific tone and identity to this release. A huge thank you to Mary for thinking of me. I chose this track because I felt it really fit with the spirit and aesthetic of her label.

What tools or production techniques played a central role in the production?

The main element that drives my productions is the tension between the different layers and the clarity of the high frequencies. To achieve that, I often use the ‘utility’ tool to create movement in the volume of my recordings, along with ‘Saturn’ by FabFilter, which is incredibly helpful for fine-tuning and sculpting specific frequencies.

Monday Off is known for releasing vinyl-only, carefully curated selections. How did it feel to contribute to a label with that kind of focused identity?

I’m truly happy and grateful that Mary thought of me once again. We all know how much time, investment, and preparation it takes to release a record these days, so it really means a lot.

When working on something intended for vinyl, does your process change at all in terms of dynamics, mix depth, or intensity?

There are certain aspects that deserve a bit more control, such as dynamics, stereo width, or vocals. But my creative process itself remains the same.

What are you exploring at the moment musically? Are there new directions, tempos, or textures that are pulling you forward?

Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of classical music and quite a few soundtracks. I’ve been drawn to silence lately. I like feeling those moments of stillness, they bring me peace, which is exactly what I’ve needed these past few weeks.

What can we expect from you next – releases, collaborations, or upcoming performances?

Several new releases are on the way. My new album is now finished, and I’m just waiting for the final details regarding the official release date, which should be sometime between February and April 2026.
