Fresh Picks: Wehbba

Wehbba - Fresh Picks | Soundspace (Interview)

This month the Fresh Picks series will see Brazil native and frontman for South American techno Wehbba list his top selections from the previous month. Tracks from Shlomi Aber and Pig&Dan and labels Soma, Ostgut Ton and more are present.

Wehbba has been active both in the studio and on the road, his tunes have landed on Tronic and Bedrock in the past 12 months and his most recent production ‘Fake’ is set for an August 28th release on Drumcode’s upcoming VA.

On top of releasing on one of techno’s most prime labels he is currently underway on a tour of the US, stopping off in Arizona and Cali’.

Shlomi Aber – Under Two Worlds
Label: Figure
Release: 10th July

I’ve been playing Shlomi’s music for well over a decade, and I’ve been really enjoying his recent work, it seems he’s embraced more diversity and even though his music always stands out, nowadays it’s almost like a sure buy for me. I love the fat groove with the melancholic theme riding through it.

DJ Deep – New Horizon (Roman Poncet Steps Remix)
Label: Deeply Rooted
Release: 7th July

Roman Poncet’s output is super consistent and he delivers every single time, no exception here, this remix sends me right back to my early raving days with that big crunchy choir stab, dressed with a proper modern structure and quality, I’ve been playing this in almost every set for the past couple of months. Make sure to check the original, it’s great too!

Cari Lekebusch – Cygnus
Label: H Productions
Release: 24th July

I’ve been a huge fan of Cari Lekebusch since I’ve started to DJ in the early 2000s, his music always sounded so huge on the speakers and still does, this one is a great tool, and tools are an integral part of my sets but good tools don’t come along all that often, so this one will be staying in for a while.

Mark Henning – Lithium
Label: Soma
Release: 10th July

Another constant figure in my playlists, Mark Henning on Soma is synonym with quality, and this one is no different. I just love that huge epic synth hook that’s so minimal yet so ominous, it works incredibly well to take the set into a trippier vibe without loosing any energy whatsoever.

Pig&Dan – Obsession
Label: Elevate
Release: 7th July

Pig & Dan have been on a roll that never seems to stop, and I can’t complain about that! Everything they touch seems to turn into gold, and this recent record on their own label is a perfect example, every track on the EP is cool, but this one finds its way into every set of mine, it’s one of those wildcard tracks that seem to work in any situation.

Kobosil – 40000 L
Label: Ostgut Ton
Release: 14th July

This one is huge, that alarm-like synth theme is as ravey as it gets while still remaining classy, it’s a straight up techno workout that really stands out, with a very strong character. It’s become one of the highlights of my sets recently whenever I want to raise the intensity, and it never fails.

Pre-order ‘Wehbba – Fake’ via Drumcode and Beatport now. Coming August 28th.
