Top 5 Garage Tunes of 2014

2013 was an amazing year for music, with ground-breaking releases in all genres and many fresh faces making names for themselves.

Now five months in to the year, we’ve seen some amazing developments in music, especially garage, with DJ EZ’s Boiler Room set being one of the biggest things so far this year.  We give you our list of the top five garage tunes of 2014. Read on for more info!

5. Poundcake Remix by Moony
A massive bootleg twist on the tune hip-hop instrumental ‘Poundcake’ by Drake, this flip keeps the amazing atmospheric vocals and transforms it in to an amazing 2-step remix. The vintage garage organ sound, with an amazing thumping bass really make this one of my favourites of all time, not just this year. Debuted at DJ EZ’s Boiler Room set, Moony is now offering this as a download on his Bandcamp page.

4. Take It Back by Preditah
An amazingly warm track perfect for the warm weather we’ve encountered this year, Preditah unleashed this track as a SoundCloud preview a couple of months ago. There’s also a flip to this, with a vocal from Zoe Kypri, who has worked with Artful Dodger. Grime veteran Preditah has been on a hot tip lately, with a huge variety of new Garage and House music. No confirmed release information for this yet, hopefully we’ll see this one out soon!

3. On My Mind (Version One) by Flava D & Royal-T
A collaboration with London-based Flava D and Southampton-based Royal-T has resulted in a stunning garage track which you won’t be able to get off your mind. This tune came out on an EP, with three other versions of On My Mind, all great! Flava D has been making some huge movements this year, with a track debut on SB.TV and the release of some amazing music. Royal-T and Flava D both have some new solo material coming out on FABRICLIVE.75.

2. If U Leave by Conducta & A.Motion
Soundspace has previously featured A.Motion’s track ‘On My Mind’ which is a huge tune alone, but this collaboration with Bristol-based producer Conducta has really been a refreshing new take on garage music, perfect on the bass and an amazingly catchy vocal chop. The duo have worked together on a number of amazing tracks, but this one really stands our as their best work. This one is also a free download!

1. Rather Be (Royal-T Remix) by Clean Bandit
Some really amazing music hit the charts this year, the original mix of ‘Rather Be’ being a huge example of that, with a beautiful vocal by Jess Glynne and dreamy strings resulting in not only a great original track, but the stems to an amazing garage remix made by Royal-T. We’ve already mentioned Royal-T in the article, but this remix was really special. Royal-T also hosts shows on Rinse FM with the Butterz crew every now and then, click here for previous shows.
