Kicking things off for the summer on The Big 40 we see Romanian born, Canadian raised, Berlin based DJ & producer Simina Grigoriu.

She’s worked with names like Paul Kalkbrenner in the past, and her recent work has seen her on labels like HMWL and her own Kuukou Records.

Discussing experiences on the road, early influences and family life as a DJ, Simina answers The Big 40.

Simina’s ‘Techno Monkey/Ninja Princess’ is out on July 8th on her label Kuukou Records.



01. Where are you right now and what are you doing?

Ibiza – Hotel de Torres – in pyjamas, writing to you!

02. What year were you born?

1981.

03. What’s the coolest thing in your house?

Regina Music Box with metal records from the early 1900’s.

04. Worst experience as a DJ?

People using my husband’s name to get more bodies into the club. It’s happened too often and makes us all look bad. Especially the promoters. Ya hear?!

05. Best experience as a DJ?

When my mom came to my show. It only happened once and she was in my face with a camera the entire time. I think that night, she got what I do.

06. Favourite record label?

Not fair! Drumcode/Mindshake/Tronic/Transmat, from back in the day. And now Kuukou!

07. House or Techno?

Techno!

08. First record you ever paid for?

Johnny Dangerous – Beat That Bitch (with a bat).

09. Studio or DJ booth?

DJ booth.

10. Your dream collaboration?

RZA or Delia Derbyshire.
