Q&A: The Relaxation Step

TSR

We got in touch with The Relaxation Step to find out how they felt about reaching 3,000 subscribers on their YouTube channel as well as a look into what they have coming next.

Soundspace:

So who is TRS Music?

The Relaxation Step:

TRS Music is a promotional network turned record label based in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland. We specialize in the more experimental & melancholic of genres.

Soundspace:

You said turned record label, why the change?

The Relaxation Step:

I was tired of seeing such a huge amount of good music with no outlet to properly release their music, there are a few labels for this particular niche like MrSuicideSheep’s ‘Seeking Blue’ but none most people would call the go-to label, I hope to fill that void or at least try.

Soundspace:

Did Seeking Blue influence your change?

The Relaxation Step:

Not overly, just a quick example. I had an idea for a label before I knew Seeking Blue existed.

Soundspace:

If you could live in any country for a day, where would it be and why there?

The Relaxation Step:

Norway, it’s a beautiful country, so much land very little people. Sounds like it’d suit me to a t. Well that answers probably a lie, NYANARA.

Soundspace:

What’s your thoughts on the current state of YouTube, music promoters seem to have a pretty big influence with lots of healthy competition?

The Relaxation Step:

I think the idea that independent networks making very little money can promote music and have a big impact is great, it really separates those just in it for the money and those that have a passion for the music. Although as you say, there are a lot of networks that have a big influence and no doubt a big paycheck. If they aren’t careful they could end up outputting a stereotype to thousands and maybe even millions of people that a particular genre has to sound a particular way.

Soundspace:

Something we shouldn’t know about you?

The Relaxation Step:

I really enjoy Panic! At The Disco, don’t tell anyone.

Soundspace:

Do you have any future plans regarding TRS as a brand?

The Relaxation Step:

I can’t give away much right now as we’re still in the early stages but all I can say is that we are possibly heading that route. When the time is right of course and we can be completely self-reliant.

Soundspace:

One person you would love to meet in person?

The Relaxation Step:

I really would have loved to have met Christopher Hitchens before he passed away, he had a big impact on shaping my personality.

Soundspace:

You just hit 3,000 subscribers, so how’s it feel?

The Relaxation Step:

Excellent! Been a long time coming I say.

Soundspace:

Anything to add?
