Q&A: BLACK GIRL / WHITE GIRL

We caught up with the extrovert duo that consists of Tahnee Vanity and Karin Debi, more commonly known as BLACK GIRL / WHITE GIRL to find out what’s in store and what they think of the exclusive mix they made for Soundspace. Read on to find out more..

So who is BLACK GIRL/WHITE GIRL?

BLACK GIRL / WHITE GIRL

Hi! We’re a DJ & production team currently residing in Tel Aviv, Israel. But we like to move around quite a bit. We just go where the music takes us, which is sometimes Amsterdam, sometimes elsewhere.

The inspiration behind your name is quite obvious, did you both begin to produce music after you had met?

BLACK GIRL / WHITE GIRL

Yeah, our name can mean anything you want it to mean really. It really depends on how you choose to look at it, or us. We started producing together about 3 months ago. We’ve released two tracks until now, which are G.L.O.W. and the more bass-heavy Believe U (Turn It Around).

Do you have any plans for 2014?

BLACK GIRL / WHITE GIRL

Too much to mention! We’re hoping on a UK tour and a couple of summer 2014 festival performances. But the main focus is on producing new music and getting our name out there. We’ve actually just begun working on our first EP. The release should be somewhere in 2014, but we’re not planning that to the dot yet. In the meantime we’ll also be pushing some remixes out as well. So there is new music on the way. You know, there really aren’t enough female DJ duos out there that are really bossing it right now. So for 2014 we are planning to do exactly that!

Tell us one thing we shouldn’t know about you?

BLACK GIRL / WHITE GIRL

We are both very temperamental and.. feisty. One of us is Jewish and the other one is Caribbean, so there are always plenty of sparks flying around. But all in good fun really, we know when to tone it down and get on with business as usual. Most of the times. Haha!

You prepared a special mix for us; can you tell us more about it?

BLACK GIRL / WHITE GIRL

Well, you’re in for a treat! The mix is a Soundspace exclusive, featuring some of the deep and classy tracks that got us in their grip at the moment. We cannot be bothered with naming subgenres, so let’s just say that deep is the right classification for this mix. Just get yourself a pair of good cans, a smoke/toke, press play.. and vibe out.
