Rather than face the task of picking a favorite track from this splendid LP, I’ve decided to select something that gives you a taste of this project’s diversity.
Appearing just after the midway point, Suburban Playground gives the listener some welcome respite from Hoffman’s dark industrial grooves that dominate the early exchanges. While employing the same skippy, UKG-esque percussion as its predecessors, this tune’s soulful vocal snippets and delicate chord sequence combine for a lighthearted and joyful feel, expertly conjuring images of long autumnal park walks in the process.
A nice touch from Hoffman that demonstrates a certain sensitivity to complement his usual brawn.
