Pixelord – Ottawa (ft. Dojo)

Pixelord, Ottawa, Soundspace, Hyperboloid Records

Rating: 8.5

Russia’s Alexey Devyanin, perhaps better known to most as Pixelord has successfully established himself as a go to provider of nu age funk and electronica. His slick style of bright synths and bouncy basslines has secured him his spot as a strong influence in the Moscow bass scene.

His debut LP, appropriately titled ‘Places’ comes via the fellow Russian team behind Hyperboloid Records. With the titles named after a list of cities that related to the personal life of Alexey; ‘Berlin’, ‘Ottawa’, ‘Phuket’, ‘Bodø’, ‘Bejing’, ‘Chicago’, ‘Moscow’, ‘Novosib’, ’10:37′ and ‘Home’.

With an extensive listen of the LP, and despite the choice being close to impossible due to the quality seen on this one, Ottawa takes our pick. A blend of emotive synth pads, warm glistening percussive riffs and a sample of Destinys Child’s ‘Say My Name’; it comes together into a relaxing, ambient mixture of hiphop undertones and future bass vibes.
