Markantonio talks new ‘Fusion’ EP, AnalyticTrail, and more

Interview: Markantonio

Neapolitan DJ, producer, and label boss Markantonio has been a mainstay among the leading names in Italian techno for more than two decades now, and his productions have more recently come on top club music imprints like EI8HT, Intec, and KD RAW.

His work as a label owner has also been quite impressive over the years, with the AnalyticTrail catalogue now boasting appearances from respected artists such as Filterheadz, Mha Iri, Metodi Hristov, and others.

We recently got the chance to ask him a couple of questions, where we spoke about his latest ‘Fusion’ EP, what else we can expect to hear from AnalyticTrail in the near future, and which other labels he might be releasing with himself. Read the full interview with Markantonio below.

Hey Markantonio, how are things? What have you been up to this week so far?

Hey guys, thanks for inviting me. Everything is good, thank you! I’ve just been working a lot, it’s been a hectic week.

You recently released your ‘Fusion’ EP on AnalyticTrail, how would you describe the five original tracks included on this one?

The EP comprises of five dynamic and impactful techno tracks which were produced with the thought of the dancefloor in mind. Each track has a unique vibe, but what I love most about all of these tracks is that I’ve been playing them in my set for many months, and the crowd reaction has always been amazing.

And it’s a collaborative EP alongside Drumsauw, how did you both come together for this release?

Drumsauw is an established regular when it comes to releasing music on my label. His sound really impressed me, so I asked him to make something together. It was effortless and fast to create those tracks. Over the space of two months, we put together a bunch of tracks, and I think ‘Fusion’ is the best selection of those records.

You’ve released music from producers like Uncertain, Procombo, Filterheadz, and Metodi Hristov via AnalyticTrail, who else might we see on the label in the coming months?

I’m actually working on bringing my label back to its origins. I’m really fascinated by the new fast but grooving techno that is coming out and being released at the moment.

In terms of artists, I will have Uncertain on the label again this year, and I’ve confirmed releases from B. Riley, The Miller, and a young talent from Ireland called CULT, plus many others which I can’t reveal right now. But I can give you a spoiler and an exclusive, which is that I’m thinking of printing some special vinyl releases featuring funky and groovy music only, so stay tuned.

And which other labels will you be releasing with yourself in the near future?

I have many releases in the pipeline that I can’t reveal yet, but what I will say is that I’m spending a big part of my day in the studio, aiming to bring back my groovy techno style. I’m still working on fixing some tracks for around two or three new projects, so you can definitely expect some releases and collaborations during the second half of 2023 and the first half of 2024, on some of my favourite labels.

Do you have a favourite label besides your own?

Yes, I have several different labels that I follow and play their music. As I mentioned before, I’m heading back to my roots, so I’m mostly following labels releasing funky and groovy tracks, such as Mutual Rytm, Primal Instinct, Drawner, ANAOH, Frenzy, and others.

Anything else you want to mention before we finish up?

Yes, that’s probably the most important thought of this chat. I hope that music will once again become the main point of the techno scene in a couple of years!
