So who is Roy Davis Jr.?

Roy Davis Jr.

First, Roy Davis Jr is a father of three beautiful children, two boys and one girl. I’m a Godly man who lives to give more than I receive and a man who passes no judgements on anyone, I prefer to live on this earth in as much peace as possible.

You’re Chicago born and bred, how do you feel the Chicago reputation stands today when compared to 20 years ago?

Roy Davis Jr.

Yes, raised in Chicago but born in Los Angeles, CA. As far as the reputation of Chicago, comparing it to 20 years ago, It’s more unified as far as music creators go. The city itself has changed a lot as far as the youth goes, needing more positive leaders today than yesterday.

So, with that in mind I take the time out to work with certain groups such as the Kids Off The Block program to help them build a more positive outlook in life when time permits.

You released your album titled Destroy & Rebuild on Mile End Records in 2014, what made you pick Never Alone to re-release as a single?

Roy Davis Jr.

Well, it was a rough time in my life not only for me but also for the singer as well. It was a reminder to those going through a tough time, that no matter what your not alone.

The singer was homeless when my brother J.Noize found him passing out hip hop cd’s in my neighbourhood. Then J. brought him to my house to hear his hip hop tracks. But what really caught my attention was the way he sang some of his hooks.

So, to help him out and make some money I told him to drop by tomorrow and we will make something and if it works I will pay him, right away we were talking about the struggle of life and the lack of love that people have for each other, so being who we are spiritually we bonded and I sat at the piano and put a few loops together then the hook came to me first then the verse.

Then Infinite came up with the next verse and the rest came natural from our spirits in one session, we both felt it and went with it.

The Roy Davis Jr. catalog has some massive labels like XL, Clone and Defected – what’s next for you in terms of goals?

Roy Davis Jr.

Well for goals I will continue to write songs. For whatever labels are feeling, then move forward and continue to score more music for Broadway plays & perform as much as possible while I still have some youth in me to do so.

What’s the coolest thing in your house?

Roy Davis Jr.

I’m not that much of a material person so most people would say their studio etc or a huge glass fish tank with sharks in it.

I’m a simple guy but to share with you one of the coolest things in my house to me is a lot of portrait paintings of the Chicago House Legends on my walls painted by my wonderful fiancé Jessie Cosgrove, it’s motivation looking at these guys in passing in my hallway before entering my studio.
