So who is Just Her?

Just Her

Just Her is the culmination of 15 years of incredibly hard work… DJing in sweaty backrooms, running events, selling tickets, studying and then lecturing in Music Technology, building a studio and then touring all over the world as one half of Him_Self_Her.

Launching a side project takes a lot of work, can you talk about the decision with Just Her being separate from Him_self_Her?

Just Her

Well I was always a solo artist, for many years before Him_Self_Her came along, so I am totally prepared for the workload! But the main aim of the project really is to allow me to express my deeper, more melodic side. When you work in a duo you obviously have two different tastes and opinions influencing the music and the latest Him_Self_Her projects are definitely leaning more towards darker, driving Tech House and Techno. Just Her will allow me to go in a much more musical direction, focusing on deep grooves, melodies, lyric writing and even singing the odd vocal myself.

Your dream collaboration, either living or past?

Just Her

I’d really love to work with Maya Jane Coles. I admire every aspect of her skills – musicianship, engineering, songwriting, versatility and attitude. And I think we’d have a giggle.

You put together #44 for us, how did you approach the mix?

Just Her

I always love compiling guest mixes as it allows you to be more experimental and go on a bit of a journey. I recorded the mix live and tried to include a range of genres, from deep melodic House through to driving Techno. And of course there are a couple of my own tracks cheekily thrown in there too.

Something we shouldn’t know about you?

Just Her

My first musical instrument was… the cornet! I got to grade 3 and then decided it just wasn’t cool..

Someone you feel will make a big impact in 2015?

Just Her

There are a few people that I think will absolutely rule 2015. Recondite, Robag Wruhme, Patlac, Nick Devon, Raxon & Krink to name a few. All producing absolutely stunning music.

Can you reveal any plans you may have for the future?

Just Her

The most exciting thing for me right now is the launch of my own label Constant Circles, which kicks off later this year. I have some great artists on board and of course it will be a way to showcase my own work, with the hope of putting out my own album towards the end of the year. You can stay up to date with the label at www.constantcircles.com and I will be showcasing sounds and artists from the label on a monthly radio show on Bloop London. So tune in!

I also have a remix of Eskuche & Nu Sky coming out soon on Serkal Music, a label I have loved for a long time. I’m really pleased with how the remix turned out and have got some great feedback on it already.

As we speak I’m working on an original EP for Save Us Records which is a super cool Berlin based labeI, and Im also doing a remix for a great new label called Chapter 24. Because this is the start of a new project, there are so many other things in the pipeline that I can’t mention just yet, mainly because I don’t want to Jinx them! But there is lots more to come. You can keep up to date at www.justhermusic.com. Thanks for having me! :)
