Hawtin reveals PLAYdifferently MODEL 1

Finally the details are out about the first product of Richie Hawtin’s new 2 year collaboration with british product developer Andy Rigby Jones, The PLAYdifferently Model 1 DJ mixer.

The aim of PLAYdifferently is to broaden the instruments available for presenting music, making more individuality between the DJ’s as the scene is currently focused around the 2 mixers central to the scene; pioneer and allen & heath with the addition of some recent developments like the Rane MP2015.

This new mixer’s features include six stereo channels, two stereo send and return channels, two mix outputs, a dual headphone cue system and three phono preamps ensuring vinyl comes in at the same signal level as digital files.

Each individual channel also comes with its own hi- and low-pass filters, parametric mid-range EQ and overdrive circuit. The overdrive circuit can be used to saturate unmastered tracks or creatively as a distortion source. There’s also another filter that can be assigned to a channel in typical Xone style along with a master EQ, meaning there are three frequency-sculpting options in total.

Its also been stated that the pops that can accompany activating the filter circuit on Allen & Heath’s Xone series have been removed.
