From warming up for Richie Hawtin to releasing on Anjunadeep, DAVI tells his story

DAVI, Soundspace, Interview, Q&A

So who is DAVI?

DAVI

I will let you answer that.

Your Metanoia EP is out in about a month on Tenampa Recordings, tell us the inspiration behind the player?

DAVI

It came to life during the same time when I released my 1st EP on Rebellion. I was experimenting with sounds that were not electronic synthesizers and was aiming for Middle Eastern Instruments which I ended up mixing with Armenian Harmonies.

Illusion takes our pick from the tracks, is there any you prefer to the others?

DAVI

Yeah I think Illusion is my favorite one to play in the club. But if I was to choose one for listening pleasure it would be Metanoia.

You’ve come to build a strong rep as a DJ, playing Enter LA and Burning Man, did you start out as a DJ? Or was your heart always in the studio?

DAVI

I got into music because of Classic Rock. Learned how to play a guitar by myself and attended Yerevan Conservatory for 4 years. I always loved to make music but back then it wasn’t as easy as today. I would say I had the passion for both and always tried to do both from the very beginning.

Worst experience as a DJ?

DAVI

I probably have had many. But can’t remember them all. One time i was warming up for Richie Hawtin in Las Vegas and the promoters came up and told me that I need to play commercial vocal music – until Richie entered the building.

You’ve released on some impressive imprints including Rebellion and Anjunadeep, is there a label you hope to put music out with in the future?

DAVI

Yes of course, I would love to release on Bedrock, Get Physical and few others. But you can’t always make what you want. For me its the best when I write the record and then think where it can be sent or which label would be a good fit.

Tell us something we shouldn’t know about you?

DAVI

I may talk a lot when I drink.
