Fresh Picks: Sian

Fresh Picks: Sian

Irish born, LA based artist Sian has no doubt paid his dues. His Octopus Recordings imprint has delivered tune after tune from top names like Lee Van Dowski, Rob Hes, Pirupa and Teenage Mutants.

While the majority of his own productions appear via Octopus, he has also made appearances on Stil Vor Talent and Items & Things via intelligent remix work. This month we have the techno curator in for his Fresh Picks from November’s release schedule.

His picks include gems from Billy Turner, Truncate, AFFKT and Neil Landstrumm among a few others, read on below to get Sian’s Fresh Picks!

Billy Turner – Breakthrough
Label: Turbo Recordings
Release: 24th November

Billy Turner caught my ear with this latest monster out on Turbo. The creepy synths and dark, driving groove was what first got my attention. I’ve been playing it in my sets a lot lately and it’s just got this fierce, tension building energy that sets the whole room off from start to finish.

Ellen Allien – Innocence (Truncate Remix)
Label: BPitch Control
Release: 24th November

Ellen had captured the deepest, darkest afterhours vibes on the original mix of Innocence, and Truncate brings a raw, warehouse ready, mind-warping remix to the table. I’m really digging the swirling vocals and intense percussion that evolve meticulously throughout the track, giving way to a twisted and intense journey. A perfect addition to my sets lately.

AFFKT – Vertigo
Label: Octopus Black Label
Release: 20th November

Spanish producer AFFKT is a new recruit to my label on our Octopus Black series.
He’s been releasing some monster tunes lately, and I was super excited to have him joining the label. ‘Vertigo’ is an emotive and intense track with massive depth and unique evolving sounds which paint a super intricate soundscape; a true masterpiece.

Neil Landstrumm – The Tomorrow People
Label: Central Processing Unit
Release: 24th November

Maximum grit, grime and distortion on this one. Neil Landstrumm is a master of giving raw old school vibes a modern and fresh facelift. The track has this dirty bassline and jackin’ groove with this hypnotic vocal sample that lights up the dance floor making it a real afterhours gem.

Sian – Pistol Whip
Label: Octopus Recordings
Release: 27th November

One of my own recent releases on my label Octopus, ‘Pistol Whip’ kicks off our new warehouse series. I went for my signature heavy hitting, peak-hour vibe on this one. Hard, jackhammering bass and intense synth lines take us through this track keeping the energy racing to the very end.

Reflec – Acid Response
Label: Clergy
Release: 27th November

I knew the first time I heard this one that it would be massive on the floor. Reflec harnessed that acid energy of the 303 and paired it up with some major toughness. Non-stop energy from the first beat, this one makes people lose it every time I play it. This one will be in my crate for quite some time. Definitely one of my current favorites.

Sian’s remix of Marc Houle’s Sinister Mind will be out 15th December on Items&Things.
