So who is Cari Lekebusch?

Cari Lekebusch

I title myself as a Sound Architect, international DJ, Producer, Cosmic B-Boy and Praying Mantis. Man of many theories and many pseudonymes. Owner of experimental Techno record label H-Productions aka Hybrid Productions Sound Architecture. Born 1972 with my homebase in Stockholm, Sweden.

Your ‘The Rainbow Series’ is set to debut with Return To Base and Funkhaos. What inspired this concept?

Cari Lekebusch

Yes the aim is to release at least 8 different 12 inches following the full color spectrum, as much as the vinyl pressing plant can provide the right colors. Starting with red, then orange and moving all the way to pink. At the end I would like to have one white and black mixed vinyl as well. Lets hope it all goes like planned.

Return to Base is like the title slightly reveals; inspired from tracks I made around 1995 – going back to a stripped down formula and using mainly my old analog studio equipment. The recordings are live and I only manipulate elements with 2 hands at a time – aiming for a natural flow and progression of the arrangement.

And why coloured wax only?

Cari Lekebusch

Always been a fan of colored vinyls, and did quite a few during the 90s. This new series is aiming towards a collectors series – when putting all 8 or hopefully 9 records together it will look really cool following the color spectrum.

On top of that I can reveal that there is a hidden secret – and when examining all releases you might stumble onto something – but I cant say more than that without spoiling it :)

You’ve included alternate versions of both tracks, why is this?

Cari Lekebusch

Not only the style of producing is intentionally stripped down to its basics, but also the format of titles and graphic look and I am also referring towards duality. Everything you see has at least two different but yet similar sides. You have two hands, two eyes, ears and so forth. So the A and B sides are sort of a mirror reflection of each other.

Funny thing talking about mirrors. I have a question for you – Why is it that mirrors only reverse left and right sides, AND NOT up and down? =D

How many releases will The Rainbow Series see in total?

Cari Lekebusch

Like I mentioned I would like to release 9 all together. Starting with red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, purple, pink and the ending one would have a mix of white and black vinyl compound. The colored ones are all planned to be mixed with some black as well, to give them a cool splatter effect.

Tell us something we shouldn’t know about you?

Cari Lekebusch

Haha good question! How can one answer something like this? But I do like contradictions. Actually I like weird and strange things in general.

One tune we should definitely go and listen to?

Cari Lekebusch

Sometimes I make music that you can listen to in your car or at home, not only enjoy live in the clubs. You can get my whole album for free. If you perhaps meant somebody else’s music I could recommend Grace Jones – Walking In The Rain (1985)

What does the future hold for Cari Lekebusch?

Cari Lekebusch

Many more releases, tour dates and all kinds of weird projects. I was intending to create audio and visual architectures for the rest of my life, and hopefully I will be able to do that full time. Always been intrigued by video games, and would love to be part of a project like that. Such a cool format of packaging an experience into!

Anything to add?

Cari Lekebusch

Don’t follow the stream – only dead fish do that ;)
