So who are Alan Fitzpatrick, Reset Robot and Rhymos?

Rhymos

My name is Aaron Binstead. I have been DJ’ing under the Rhymos alias for six years. I started working in Dave’s studio about five years ago to work on my own productions. Dave, Alan and myself started Whistleblower last year, we have been discussing it for a couple of years. We finally pulled our fingers out and got it up and running April last year.

Alan Fitzpatrick

I’m a bald bloke from Southampton, I am best mates with Dave and Aaron. I like coffee and trying to beat Dave at Tennis.

Reset Robot

I’m not a bald bloke from Southampton. I live in Portsmouth, produce music, DJ, cook and have 2 cats.

Your Whistleblower imprint, what lead to it’s inception, and why a joint venture?

Rhymos

Well we had all been discussing it for quite some time but never really moved forward with it. We all agreed on the name and started to work on the brand itself, art, distribution etc. The music was never really an issue. We are all sitting on a lot of music, so the main aim is to give us a decent platform to release our music on.

We are currently listening to a lot of demo’s but sadly nothing special has grabbed our attention as of yet. I really like the idea of growing the label whilst developing some new up and coming talent.

Alan Fitzpatrick

Personally I have always wanted to do something with my friends that we can call ‘ours’. I love working with the guys and its cool to all share something we are passionate about. As Aaron said, we have a lot of music so the output is always solid. Also in time I am sure we will be signing music, but the priority for me is to support our own works, first and foremost.

Reset Robot

Mates init. We wanted to do a label for ages. To be honest it took us about 2 years to decide on a name. I think we should release our list of possible names. They were pretty ridiculous.

Rhymos, your ‘Particle Fever’ player is set for release in July. Can you tell us the inspiration behind the two tracks?

Rhymos

I had been listening to a load of old Thereom tracks that were released on Minus and Plus 8 about 10 – 15 years ago. These tracks had big pads, strings and chords. So I wanted to replicate something similar. I didn’t want the track to be a basic dance floor tool. I wanted to put a bit of emotion into it.

The label has seen tracks from both Reset Robot and Rhymos, will we see Alan Fitzpatrick sounds on Whistleblower anytime soon? Excluding Customer.

Rhymos

Yes we have scheduled an Alan Fitzpatrick release with a Trus’me remix for October this year. We are really excited about this one. We plan to do one Alan Fitzpatrick release a year.

Alan Fitzpatrick

As Aaron said, yes.. my EP is incoming. Its called Tribe. I am very happy to finally bring it to life, just finalising the remixes and then we will get it scheduled.

Soundspace

On the topic of the Customer project, is there a collaboration from the three of you coming?

Rhymos

I’m not too sure about a Customer and Rhymos collab. But I have been in discussion with Dave about doing a couple of tracks together . Possibly releasing them on Whistleblower. We will see.

Alan Fitzpatrick

I am open to the idea, but its too early to say, also Aaron’s constantly breaking wind… which i don’t think I can handle.

Reset Robot

It would be fun with all 3 of us in the studio. I don’t think we’d get anything serious done though. I suppose that wouldn’t be a bad thing. Making tunes is supposed to be fun. They sound better if you laugh a lot while you make them.

Soundspace

Tell us what we can expect on Whistleblower for the rest of 2015?

Rhymos

Well you will definitely see more new material from Customer, Reset Robot, Alan Fitzpatrick and myself. Hopefully some new artists too.

We are in talks with a few event companies at present. So you will definitely see some parties from us in the UK and internationally.

Alan Fitzpatrick

What he said.

Reset Robot

Music!

Soundspace

So just a couple of more general questions, what’s your worst experience as a DJ?

Rhymos

Probably when I use to play off Traktor. It would always play up and give me a nervous break down mid set. Packed that in a few years ago and have resorted back to vinyl and wavs. I know they will work lol.

Alan Fitzpatrick

Someone bit me on the arm, very hard when I was playing once, that annoyed me and caused me to throw my headphones at him! He was asked to leave, my headphones were allowed to stay.

Reset Robot

I played after a comedian in Ukraine in 2005. He was dressed as a devil and I played to a room full of people eating their dinner.

Tell us something we shouldn’t know about you?

Rhymos

If I haven’t got a jar of Old El Paso pickled jalapenos in my fridge I start to go cold turkey.

Alan Fitzpatrick

I love Olly Murs.

Reset Robot

I’ve got a tiny pig in my ear plug container and its covered in wax.

Soundspace

What’s the coolest thing in your house?

Rhymos

I would have to say my Adam A8 X monitors or my 303.

Alan Fitzpatrick

I have an old pair of Bauer Turbo roller boots with wide trucks and sims wheels, Oh and Krypto stoppers. They also still fit, not much is cooler than that.

Reset Robot

The freezer.

Soundspace

Your favourite label you’ve never released music on?

Rhymos

My favourite label hands down is Mosaic. Run by good friend Steve O’Sullivan. Not only is he a top bloke but he also has exceptional taste in house and techno. If I ever get a release on Mosaic I would know I am doing something right. So happy he relaunched the label.

Alan Fitzpatrick

I have a few actually. Warp, XL, R&S, Pampa and Text records. Love all of these labels.

Reset Robot

I would also have to say Pampa and I’d like to say Ovum as well.

Soundspace

Favourite holiday spot?

Rhymos

I DJ’d out in Tokyo last year. I liked Tokyo, it is very fast and hectic. I was lucky enough to get the bullet train down to Kyoto which is the old capital. For me that was one of the nicest places I have been to. Lovely gardens, temples and scenery.

Alan Fitzpatrick

I enjoy the relaxing vibe a beach holiday gives, but i am well into my built up cities with lots to do. So for me its Dubai, New York, Vegas and Tokyo.

Reset Robot

Goa.
