Manchester based Project 13 are an esteemed promotion outfit with a penchant for an eclectic range of tough, floor-focused electronic music. Having played host to the likes of Akkord, Icicle, Gerry Read and DJ Rashad since their inception in 2011, their reputation has been steadily bolstered off the back of each event. Present form considered, the next logical step is to focus attention towards starting a label through which Project 13 can outlet physical cuts of the energy that’s fuelled their success.
Stepping in to inaugurate the project is a Acre - a stalwart member of the collective’s lauded residents roster who turns in three armoured experimental tracks built with stout kicks and raw percussive elements all suffused with a distinct UK Techno influence.
The ‘Symbols’ EP kicks off with the title track that sets a rasping mechanical whine over a halftime kick and clap combo that keeps a volatile tension boiling throughout. ‘O’ then follows up with cold, sharpened drum patterns that are scattered out alongside potent whacks and pops before ‘Retrograde Loops’ rolls out pacy kicks and muscular drumbreaks under a thick, smouldering texture.
Lined up for the remainder of the summer is a boat party at Outlook, parties lined up at Soup Kitchen and a label launch night including Joshua Brooks and propelled by their first release, momentum shows no sign of slowing for Project 13 as they continue to expand and develop.
