40 Questions: Mha Iri

Scottish club music has consistently defied expectations, achieving global recognition despite their modest population of around five million people. The country has birthed stand out artists like Calvin Harris, Slam, and Hudson Mohawke, alongside a solid roster of underground talents.

The newest addition to that esteemed list is undoubtedly Mha Iri – pronounced ‘Marry’ – who since 2022 has been making serious waves with her original music coming on elite techno imprints such as Adam Beyer’s Drumcode, Reinier Zonneveld’s Filth On Acid, and UMEK’s 1605.

Her sound brings a well measured balance of fierce drum transients, driving basslines, and uplifting synth melodies – and she’s become a regular holder of the single digit positions on Beatport charts.

Taking on our 40 Questions this week, the Edinburgh-based artist talks about everything from her favourite memory as a DJ and the first record she ever paid for, to her biggest weakness and what the top thing on her bucket list is. Read the full interview with Mha Iri below.
