40 Questions: John Monkman

When it comes to music producers worth their weight in gold, John Monkman is about as valuable as they come, even in a market as saturated as the UK club scene he’s managed to stay above the noise, releasing his music with record labels like Anjunadeep, Ellum, and Kompakt.

He also heads up an imprint of his own in Beesemyer Music, where since 2012 he’s hosted productions from names like Anaphase, and seminal radio maestro Pete Tong.

Even in 2023, when Instagram “DJs” are taking over music charts and festival line ups, John has stayed front and centre alongside our industry’s best, and he doesn’t seem interested in slowing down any time soon.

This week he takes on our 40 Questions, where we find out about his worst experience in the DJ booth, the weirdest food he’s eaten, and who inspires him the most as a creator. Read the full interview with John Monkman below.
