So who is Ordonez?

Ordonez

I’m a dj & producer from Ecuador, been in the game since 2003, but i’ve been serious in productions for a couple of years only. Along some fellow friends and djs started the electronic scene in Cuenca, I’m a system engineer too, and I have my brand Ondemand Events and All The Toys to promote events in my city.

Your ‘The Spell EP’ is about to drop on Mother Recordings, tell us how it came to be?

Ordonez

Well i’ve been sending my tracks to Nhan for quite sometime, getting feedback from him, and I got to meet him personally on Rotofest in Ecuador last april, so I showed him the spell and he loved it, started playing it on his gigs right away and then he asked me for some other tracks to complete the EP.

How You Doing takes our pick from the two, do you prefer one over the other?

Actually no but ‘How You Doing’ took more time to finish, i’ve been working on that track for a while already, with ‘The Spell’ everything worked out more smoothly.

Now that summer is in full flow, there couldn’t be a better time to put this one out, did you have the sunshine in mind when creating it?

Ordonez

Yes, I was planning my trip to Europe at the moment so I guess that influenced the track a lot, but I wasn’t thinking to release it this summer, usually labels have big queues and take several months to release something. I guess I’m really lucky that Nhan fell in love with the tracks haha.

Mother likes to keep things in the family, Dilby, Superlover, Nhan Solo etc.. Will we see more Ordonez sounds on Mother in the future?

Ordonez

I really hope so, i’ve already showed them a couple of tracks that I’ve been working on that I couldn’t finish since I came to Europe for the whole summer, but rest assured that you would hear more tracks like this and I really hope they come out on Mother.

Well since I got Spotify I discovered this guy that I never heard about before – sorry if he’s super famous haha. But I really like Jamie Woon, especially TMRW.

What’s the coolest thing in your house?

Ordonez

The indoor backyard near my studio.

Tell us something we shouldn’t know about you?

Ordonez

I had another alias and I made really crappy music when I was a kid.

What’s your worst experience as a DJ?

Ordonez

Everything is a learning curve, but the lack of professionalism of promoters is always something that DJs have to worry about.

What does the future hold for Ordonez?

Ordonez

You can expect a lot more from me, it’s been a long road and it’s difficult to make an international image for yourself coming from such a small country, with an equally small underground scene. But I think the hard work is paying off and I hope to keep on the right path.

I didn’t expect the interview to be this hard hahaha. But seriously I would like to suggest young people out there to start working on your own music that’s the only way in this world where everyone is a DJ.
